Trees have significant spiritual significance to me. They represent centuries of lives lived. They are strong, and true, and unmistakably regal, familiar and yet unfamiliar until you spend time at their base, or amongst their branches, and admire the amazing energies flowing within and around their intricate life systems. I often wonder what trees would tell us about generations past of humans, animals, plants and life — all of which has grown and evolved, near their roots, branches, and trunk. 

My piece, “Trees” is woven with a rayon chenille warp to represent the softness and gentle nature of the energy of trees; and multiple fibers calling to mind what I’ve shared above. The poem by Mary Oliver is absolutely one of my favorites. 

Artist statement:
Kathy Litchfield is a certified master weaver who designs and weaves one-of-a-kind wearable art on 8- and 16-harness floor looms. Her scarves, shawls, ponchos, vests and home textiles are inspired by nature and the magical world around us. Kathy’s innate sense of wonder for the world and contagious enthusiasm for life are evident in her work. She sells her work at 20+ juried shows/year and at fine art and craft galleries in NH, VT and MA.
