Artist Statement
A single tree wouldn’t do justice to this project, so I turned a total of 7 trees out of different woods. As I started making this cohort of trees, I decided I would create trees of different sizes, colors and textures as a celebration of diversity. These trees are a representation of the diversity of life – all life.

As a wood turner, I’ve been working on embellishing my work with colors. I used a variety of techniques to embellish these – natural finishes, stain, wood dyes, and iridescent paints, with a sprinkling of sparkle paint overlaid here and there.

Artist Bio
Gary Walz is a lifelong wood worker who has turned his attention to wood turning for the last 20 years. Easily learned, but never mastered, wood turning challenges him because of the endless possibilities of design. Gary takes pride in harvesting many materials from his own property. In addition to woods Gary uses materials as diverse as acrylics, metals, pine cones, acorns, bottle caps, rice, sea shells and watch parts in his turnings.

Gary works out of his home studio in Milton, and is a Board Member of the Vermont Woodturners Guild.
