#19 Birdhouse, Ellen A Thompson

Description

As a longtime fiber artist, new time clay artist, and lover of gardening, I wanted to combine all of my artistic passions into my birdhouse!  My birdhouse illustrates the wild nature of my lakeside gardens – full of color, texture, birds, and more!  Vines are everywhere creeping over trees and shrubs in wild abandon. A knitted vine tries to capture some of this energy on my birdhouse.  Finally, I have added a clay bird.  This bird signals the start of spring and summer days and evenings by the lake, listening to the bird songs into the evening hours.

As a fiber artist and co-owner of Yellow Dog Farm in South Hero, Vermont, I am drawn to texture and colors.  We raise fiber animals to produce our mohair blend yarns, which are then dyed into vibrant colors.  I use these yarns, as well as my own hand spun yarns, in my knitting and weaving to produce one of a kind items.
