I am a felt-maker living in Elmore with my sister, two cats and two mischievous miniature donkeys. Feltmaking satisfies my creative yearning to directly handle texture and color and gently mold fiber into fabric, useful and beautiful objects, and works of art. I haul water up to my studio above my garage and wet felt merino and silk, viscose, yarn and fabric into an entirely new composite of time, muscle and vision. I should call it the dopamine studio because the alchemy I am privileged to witness makes me so happy and content. In my cozy house I sit at my table and needlefelt Corriedale roving and batting into 2D art, which reminds me of the direct experience of finger painting, applying subtle layers of color and shadows and texture with one, three sometimes six needles at a time. I have to post a sign at shows and markets helping people to notice that my art is made of wool and not paint. Sharing my work/play with people, creating a space where the happiest and subtlest hues combined with softness and shine await their surprise and appreciation, is important to me to maintain and continue to foster.
Surprise:
I still have my day job but can’t wait to retire and do art full time!
