Description
As a woodturner birdhouse project became an opportunity to create some turned birds. I take inspiration from all the birds that we see here in Vermont and especially here in South Hero. Everyday dozens (if not more) of tree swallows fly between the railing on the deck to the martin house in the field. In the barn, barn swallows soar and float like they are in an airshow. Outside, we have Baltimore orioles that come looking for the grape jelly in one of the feeders, while the ubiquitous hummingbirds are buzzing back and forth.
The birds on my birdhouse are made from walnut and are not representative of any specific species but are more a figment of my imagination. The painted barn boards on the birdhouse remind me of the barn where our Angora goats spend their nights. The painted flowers, although childish in nature, remind me that we are all children at heart. We need to take time to watch the birds and smell the flowers as we go through our daily lives.
I hope you enjoy my birdhouse and hope that it brings you joy as well…
