Description
Rebecca Nase Chomyn is a welder who creates beautiful swirling natural designs out of steel, but she also paints. She has a BFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute and has been creating art at a professional level for about 24 years. Up until recently all of the art that she made was steel and only had rusty to shinny variations in color. Someone suggested painting the art to make it pop, so Rebecca dusted off her paint brushes and gave it a go. She now creates all manner of painted natural images and incorporates them into her swirly designs.
Choosing what to paint for the birdhouse project was relatively easy. One of Rebecca’s most inspirational things are trees. When in doubt, make a tree. Also her favorite color is that deep blue the top of the sky is when the sun has just set and it’s changing over to night. Vermont’s mountains make such a beautiful front drop to the sunset and seem to glow. With the silhouette of bare branched maple trees in front, there’s nothing quite like it.
